1ED: n. Acronym for 1337-emitting diode (pronounced “leet,” not “one-three-three-seven”). Any light (but almost invariably a blue LED) on or within a computer that exists solely for posturing and conveys no diagnostic or status information. Examples include illuminated fans and RAM modules with “ground effects lighting.” (Compare Type R sticker.)
LED are the norm, Light emitted diode has been out since 1969, I do remember when the first one, then the blue led came out just before 2000 and now we are looking for most brighest leds we can find, the luxeon! or even a stage light with leds, I might end up pages and pages just talking about LEDs.... oh, have I bored you? wake up!

I even have a smart card reader that has such an LED, which blinks when the smart card is being read. Except the default state is LED on. I would have thought the better state would be for the LED to flash on when in use, and be off otherwise, but apparently that's insufficiently leet.
In my defense, though, when I custom-ordered this semi-monstrosity I told them to take the extra LEDs out. They just didn't.
